Argumentative Essay 2

Children today spend more time watching TV than they did in the past. Describe some of the advantages and disadvantages of watching TV.

These days children spend more time watching TV than they did in the past. There are some advantages and disadvantages of watching TV. Now, I would like to argue children have more disadvantages than advantages if they watch TV too often.

To begin with, children like watching TV as the programs are very interesting. When they come home from school, they would like to turn on the TV to relax themselves after school. However, children eat something when they are watching TV. They eat more unknowingly. Also, they do less sport because of the TV. They become less healthy due to a lack of exercise. Therefore, children are more likely to be overweight and less healthy, so they are more prone to diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, etc.

Moreover, some people argue that watching TV can strengthen their brain development because they can learn new things from the programs. However, youngsters who spend more time watching TV use less time in learning. They may get a bad result of the tests. So, children should not spend more time in watching TV, they should focus on the learning. Although students can receive a lot of useful information, they can also see violent scenes from the TV programs. They can make more bad influence on children’s mind.

It is obvious there are both positive and negative effects on children when they watch TV. Positive effects include relaxation and brain strengthening; and negative effects include obesity, less healthy, and polluted mind. We can see the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
