Writing 2

Scientists are warning about the need to save energy for the sake of the environment, yet some students don’t care enough to change their habits, such as recycling papers, save water and lights. Why haven’t they changed? What kind of activities should schools adopt to encourage students to change? Write a letter to your school newsletter. Dear Editor
I am writing to talk about environment. Nowadays, many students do not care enough to change their habits, such as recycling papers, save water and lights. In fact, there are some reasons why they have not changed.

Many students do not save trees. They who waste paper do not use the whole sheet and both sides of the paper for writing and drawing. Also, some students forget that pencils are made of wood as well. They sharpen them too often so that they last longer. Moreover, younger use paper towels to dry their hands in the washroom. They always use more than they need. Therefore, lots of students do not save the trees.

Worse still, many students do not save energy. If they leave the classroom, they do not turn off the lights and fans. At home, most young people turn on the TV or the computer all day. Besides, when they use an electric hand dryer in the washroom instead of paper towels, they use it for longer than necessary. They waste so much energy.

What is more, young people do not conserve water. When they have finished washing their hands, they do not make sure that they turn the tap off tightly so that the water does not drip.

In fact, school should adopt some activities to encourage student to change their habits. Firstly, students start collecting used paper so that it can be recycled. They can arrange to have recycling bins delivered to their school and encourage people to put their plastic bottles, aluminum cans and paper inside them.

Next, if students buy take-away food at lunchtime, they should avoid using Styrofoam boxes as these are very bad for the environment. Also, the school asked them that should bring their own plastic lunch box to the restaurant and ask for their food to be put into this instead.

Moreover, students can collect all their old clothes and have a clothes market at school. In the lunch-break or after school, they can sell the clothes that they no longer want and buy ‘new’ ones from others. Also, students collect the money that school earn could be donated to a charity.

The students do not save the trees and energy, and they also conserve water. These actions effect the environment directly. Moreover, schools should adopt recycled activities to encourage student to change their habits.

Yours faithfully
Katy sun
